Invitation

Dear APAA Family and Friends:

Annual reunions of family members and relatives are usually occasions for getting together to experience the joy and pleasure of seeing one another again, updating ourselves with happenings in the past year. The APAA Family is no different. Our reunions take place at our Council Meetings usually held in the last quarter of the year.

This year our reunion will take place on November 17-20, 2007. The venue will be Adelaide, South Australia, known as the wine region of Australia. To give you a preview of what Adelaide is, let me share my understanding of its history that the colonists wanted to build a “dignified” city. We can therefore characterize Adelaide as a civilized and progressive city even as it has remained a conservative city. Located in the southern middle part of Australia, Adelaide is cradled and partly surrounded by gently rolling and “calming” hills, with its southside opening up into the crashing waves of part of the Southern Ocean. It is not a city of skyscrapers but of moderately sized buildings that have considerable history in them including its historic pubs. I will stop here and let you discover Adelaide and its environs by yourselves.

The Australian Group of APAA is leaving no stone unturned in their preparations for a truly memorable and enjoyable APAA meeting. There is no denying the fact that our meetings have unique features that only APAA has. The usual one-day excursion to interesting places in the area is a long-remembered networking activity. The hospitality suite, this time hosted by Australian APAA members, is another excellent opportunity for building friendships and enjoying ourselves.

The Workshop Group is spearheading the educational part of this year’s program which promises to include timely and relevant topics. Our six standing committees will be sharing with us updates on IP developments in Asia. Needless to say, the conference will have a good balance of the social, networking and educational aspects --- all necessary ingredients of a good meeting.

In my capacity therefore as President of APAA, I extend a cordial invitation to all our members, their accompanying persons, as well as new members attending for the first time, to join us in November in Adelaide.

This invitation is made also to the members of our extended family --- our observers from outside the Asian region, whom we shall be happy to welcome once again to enjoy the warmth and friendship of APAA members. If any of your friends wish to join us, provided they qualify as observers under our rules, we shall endeavour to make their attendance meaningful.

Let Adelaide be a reunion to remember for years to come!

Faithfully yours,

Alonzo Q. Ancheta
President of APAA

Greetings from Adelaide

On behalf of the Recognised Group of Australia, I am pleased to invite all APAA members to Adelaide for the 54th Council Meeting of the Asian Patent Attorneys Association. I am also very pleased to welcome to the 54th Council Meeting all attending observers and accompanying people. The Adelaide Convention Centre easily holds a very large number of delegates, so there are no plans to restrict attendance and you should all make the effort to join us “Down Under” in November 2007.

Not only will the 54th Council Meeting provide you with the professional and business opportunities, and the outstanding networking opportunities, you will have come to expect, we will also make sure you experience Australia as only Adelaide can provide. Adelaide’s reputation for its food and wine is unsurpassed; its small size and slow pace means everywhere and everything is close and easy; and we have all types of cuddly and bouncy friends for you to enjoy in the Adelaide Hills and the nearby Outback.

The message that I want to leave you with, though, is to bring your family for a holiday and a well-earned break. If you must travel this far (and indeed you must), make it worthwhile. Australia will excite and enthral – Adelaide will amaze and astonish! See you in November!

Cheers,

Greg Bartlett
President – Recongised Group of Australia, APAA
